Published: January 31st, 2013

OXFORD – The Oxford Rod & Gun Club is pleased to announce the addition of three new shooting programs. Cowboy action shooting, traditional black powder rifle shooting and steel challenge pistol have been added to the list of recreational shooting opportunities including trap shooting, rifle and pistol shooting, 3-D archery and indoor archery leagues.

Cowboy action shooting is a timed shooting event using revolvers, lever-action rifles and shotguns of the types used in the old west. Participants dress in Western attire, adopt an “alias” and persona typical of the cowboy era and shoot at steel targets set up to reflect a variety of western scenarios. Cowboy action shooting is the fastest growing recreational shooting activity in the country and is fun for the whole family. Oxford Rod & Gun Club is a member of the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS). Come join the “Oxford Regulators” at their shoots which will be held the second Sunday of the month from April through October. Registration is from 8 to 9 a.m. Shooting begins at 1o. An all you can eat breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 10:30. Lunch will be available.
