Habitat seeking donations and volunteers for Souper Bowl

NORWICH – Calling all Chenango County restaurateurs, Chenango County Habitat for Humanity (CCHH) is preparing for their second annual “Souper Bowl” to be held at the Family YMCA on North Broad Street (across from Howard Johnsons) on March 16, and they’re looking for donations of soup and bread. This is the public event you want to be part of!

Last year, approximately 160 people attended the very successful Souper Bowl and the event raised just over $1800. Some of the public comments were, “Excellent soups!” “Best fund raiser ever.” “All of it was wonderful.” “Very different, I enjoyed it; it was a chance to sample different soups.” and “They were delicious – it was hard to choose!” Everyone wants to come back to this fun tasting event.

Habitat representatives are beginning to visit many restaurants in Chenango County. They will explain that just one-gallon of your finest soup is all that is needed, in a serving/chafing container and some freshly made bread or rolls. If someone from your restaurant can serve, that would be best, otherwise volunteers will be provided. You are welcome to advertise your establishment or catering services with your printed coupons/cards/brochures by your soup pot. Your donation will be acknowledged in all CCHH printed and web promotions. Aside from all the wonderful advertising, you may win a prize!

On March 16, from 4 to 6 p.m., the public will come to taste and evaluate more than twenty great hot soup choices, all they can eat (from small tasting cups), and breads donated by the county’s fine restaurants. They will then vote for their top three favorite soups and the soup’s chef will win either the “golden, silver or bronze ladle awards.” These esteemed awards will be designed and created by Oxford wood artisan, John Knapp, and will certainly be unique creations any chef would be proud to display.

CCHH is also seeking donations of gift certificates, items, and gift baskets from area merchants for a “Chinese Auction” that will also take place during the event. These donations will also be acknowledged in all CCHH printed and web promotions. In addition, the Souper Bowl event will offer a 50-50 raffle, door prize, and a bake sale table.
