NORTH NORWICH – A missing 13-year-old boy in the Town of North Norwich was located Sunday night following a search by authorities in the area of Whaupaunaucau and Ripple roads where the boy and his father had been hunting for small game.

The boy, whose name was not released, was reported missing shortly after 6 p.m. by the boy’s father, who said the two had become separated. Both reside outside the area, but were familiar with the woods where they were hunting, according to a Chenango County Sheriff’s Office press release.

The youth was located by a Sheriff’s Office Snowmobile Unit near Post Road in the Town of North Norwich, approximately one mile from where the two were believed to have been separated. The snowmobile unit, at the time, was investigating a possible sighting by LifeNet of New York helicopter, which was called in to assist in the search. The boy was treated on the scene and released to his father.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by the Chenango County Fire Coordinator’s Office; search teams out of Chenango, Madison and Onondaga counties; the Norwich Fire and Police departments; the New York State Forest Rangers; the New York State Environmental Conservation Police; and the New York State Police.
