Oxford Tournament

Downsville 6, Norwich 1

OXFORD – Downsville, losers to Norwich at last year’s Oxford Tournament, avenged that defeat to win the tourney title on Saturday.

Kendra Lacey had her second hat trick in as many games, and Kaileen Townsend added her second consecutive two-goal game. Townsend scored the game’s opening goal 6 1/2 minutes into the opening half, and the victors tacked on three more goals over the next 24 minutes to build a 4-0 halftime lead over the Tornado.

Norwich’s Alyssa Welch scored on a penalty kick in the final 10 minutes to break up the shutout.

With the consolation game headed toward a tie, B-G’s Taylor Palmitier netted the game-winning goal with 1:40 left in the second extra period giving the Bobcats a 4-3 victory over host Oxford.

Four different B-G players scored, and Kylee O’Hara’s tally with just 45 seconds left in regulation forced the extra periods.

Sarah Renaud had two goals for Oxford, the second with 14:21 left in the second half gave Oxford a 3-2 lead.
