The above district school is somewhat of a mystery as to the exact location. According to the 1875 map of Chenango County the school site was on Great Lot #84 which if you bring it to the current Chenango County map is located about in center of the McDonough Township. If you are traveling Route 220 from McDonough to Oxford just outside of McDonough you will find Creek Road (a right hand turn coming out of McDonough). The next road to the right is the Chestnut Road. Information just received – the school was located near Pooler Road and abandoned in 1910.

Mrs. Jennie Preston in her extensive research found this school site to be difficult in location. In conversation with the current historian, this writer will assume the name of the district to be Chestnut. However, if anyone can shed light on this mystery to not hesitate to contact Donna Robb.
