Kim’s work featured at NBT bank

NORWICH – NBT Bank’s Wall of Art is featuring the artwork of Chong Ho Kim at the bank’s Norwich Office on South Broad Street. His work will be on display through the end of August.

Kim, who works primarily in acrylics, is a self-taught painter who started painting in 1996. “When I started painting, I focused on landscapes with lots of vegetation and flowers,” he said. “I experimented with abstracts and now most of my art is painted in that style.” He admits his goal is to draw the viewer into a painting to make them part of the scenery so they can experience tranquility and personal space—two qualities that he considers very important in life.

For its Wall of Art, NBT Bank is partnering with the Chenango County Council of the Arts to highlight the creativity of area residents. Council Executive Director Victoria Kappel said, “Kim’s pieces are unique and colorful. One of his techniques of painting on paper and then cutting the artwork imparts a distinctive visual effect to his work. Many of his recent landscapes have a surreal quality to them.”
