Bike Night at Gilligan’s continues to raise money for a good cause

SHERBURNE – Despite the almost 100-degree temperature, hundreds of people from all over the area showed up to Bike Night at Gilligan’s Restaurant in Sherburne Wednesday, nearly setting a new record turnout for the six-year-old summertime tradition.

The weekly biker reunion, which began with the Sherburne Wheelers in 2006, has certainly grown in popularity over the years, according to Lex Danyluk, president of the Sherburne Wheelers and ride captain for the American Legion Riders Post 189. Its popularity is partly due to its family-friendly environment, where area bikers can socialize about their passion to ride, he said; but more importantly, “It’s for a great cause.”

“The money we bring in is used for the purchase of gas cards we donate to cancer patients,” he said, explaining that gas cards benefit Chenango County breast cancer survivors traveling to treatment centers as far away as Binghamton or Cooperstown, and are burdened by the rising price of fuel.
