BAINBRIDGE – A 10-year-old boy who fell from a float – part of the annual Bainbridge Memorial Day parade – reportedly died yesterday due to injuries sustained when he was accidentally run over by the float’s driver.

Various media outlets and other sources identified the child as Teddy Cherniak of Bainbridge. He was reportedly transported to the Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. The hospital would release no information about the accident.

According to several accounts, Cherniak was sitting in a plastic chair with members of his baseball team and fell over the float’s side when it came to a stop. He was run over once the float started moving again. The accident was reported at approximately 11:20 a.m., according to the county’s daily 911 incident log.

Messages left with Village of Bainbridge Mayor Phillip Darling and Fire Chief Kyle Simpkin, along with several other Bainbridge officials, were not returned by press time.
