Pink Faith reaches out to women battling breast cancer

AFTON – A new breast cancer awareness group by the name of Pink Faith of Chenango County is taking strides to assist women in the battle against breast cancer and seeking community support for their efforts.

Pink Faith will hold its first “Victory Over Breast Cancer” community fundraiser from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 20 at Vincent’s Italian Restaurant, 164 Main St., Afton. The event includes a baked ziti dinner, salad bar and refreshments, giveaways, basket and cash raffles, and special guest speakers. Cost is $15 per person with all proceeds benefitting the Pink Faith of Chenango County.

The group is also planning the first Pink Faith Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, set to take place at 9 a.m. July 14, at the Afton Fairgrounds. Area sponsors including Binghamton Chrysler-Dodge, NBT, Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Central New York, Lourdes Hospital, and the Chenango Health Network are assisting the organization in its efforts to make an impact in Chenango County.

Thanks to the support of businesses and local organizations in the Afton, Bainbridge and Harpursville area, Pink Faith organizers Tammy Rae Palmetier, Kim Nerzak and Rose Cepero have raised more than $2,000 since February to donate to women being treated for breast cancer. The purpose, they say, is to provide financial assistance to ease the burden of transportation expenses to and from treatment sessions.
