NORWICH – Now in its tenth year, the Norwich After Prom Party committee has planned a pair of fundraisers for the drug- and alcohol-free event, which will be held once again at the Norwich Family YMCA following the junior class prom on May 19.

From 9 a.m. to noon this Saturday, committee members will hold a bottle drive at the Norwich Fire Station and those interested in donating have two options: drop off their returnable containers there or call 316-0999 for pick-up. On April 27, 20 percent of all sales at the Canasawacta Country Club will be donated to the After Prom Party, a great opportunity for a family dinner, date night or girl’s night out, said committee co-chairs Deborah Sutton and Mary Carson.

Sponsored by the high school’s Students Against Drunk Driving chapter, the After Prom Party offers a “safe, secure and monitored event” for high school students after the prom, according to committee members. In 2010 and 2011, approximately 80 percent of those attending the prom also attended the After Prom Party, more than 200 students each year. The committee, said Carson and Sutton, would like to see that statistic increase to 100 percent.
