Streaking Oxford shades Walton, 9-1

Evening Sun Report

Oxford 9, Walton 1

OXFORD – Oxford won for the second time in as many nights and for the third time in four games taming Walton Tuesday afternoon.

Andrew Golden pitched six strong innings for the victory giving up just one run. He struck out seven and walked two, and he was supported by two-RBI nights from Ryan Moore and Richard Ryan.

Oxford pulled away in the fourth inning scoring five times to break a 1-1 tie. Moore hit a run-scoring double to make it 2-1, and Ryan added a two-run single. Golden helped his own cause finishing 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

“Our pitchers have been doing a better job of not putting people on base with walks, and Andrew was in command the whole way,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “Our pitching has been coming around, even going back into last week.”

Oxford (3-4) plays at Harpursville Thursday.

G-MU 19, Franklin 9

FRANKLIN – G-MU’S rollercoaster ride of season yielded a second win Tuesday night as the Raiders powdered Franklin’s pitching for 16 hits in a Tri-Valley League victory.

G-MU senior DeMario Reed, making his first start, pitched four innings for the victory. He struck out nine, allowed one hit, and no earned runs. “It helped having DeMario pitch for us. He did well last year, and he picked up where he left off,” said G-MU coach Rick Mohrein. “He mixed his spots well and he controls the ball so well.”

Dan Primrose led G-MU with four hits and two RBI. Jason Barrows slugged three hits and drove in two, and Nate Fuller added a pair of hits.

Greene 7, Afton 6

GREENE – Greene rebounded from a one-run loss Monday to rally past Afton in Tuesday afternoon’s win.

Both of the Trojans’ runs in the winning sixth were unearned. Zach Lindow hit a two-out single, and Joe Beckwith reached on a throwing error that put runners on the corners. Beckwith stole second, and Nick Viglucci’s infield grounder led to a throwing error that scored Lindow and Beckwith.

“Out of the 13 runs, I think there were only four runs batted in,” said Greene coach Steve Burghardt.

Kurt Bartholomew and Lane Whittaker had ribbies for the Trojans (2-5).

Afton, who has three one-run losses in the last week, had an RBI single from Mark Viviano. The Knights’ Josh Davy was the lone player with two hits.
