OWEGO – Norwich placed a solid third behind Maine-Endwell and Owego at last weekend’s Section IV Class B sectional meet at Owego.

Norwich brought 15 swimmers and three divers, and out of 34 total swims, the Tornado recorded 28 personal-best times, said NHS coach Kevin Diefenbacher. “We had over 90 seconds in time drops,” Diefenbacher said. “I felt we had a very good performance at sectionals.”

The top overall finish came from the 400-yard freestyle relay team. Greg Todd, Scott Cihocki, Curtis Woodard, and Joe Stagliano placed third in a season-low 3:37:10.

Stagliano (100-yard breaststroke, 1:07.5), Todd (200-yard freestyle, 1:57.59) and Woodard (500-yard freestyle, 5:21.42) came in with fifth-place individual finishes. The 200 medley relay team of Woodard, Cihocki, Nick Mooney, and Grant Horton also placed fifth timing 1:52.29.

“Maine-Endwell and Owego were loaded with seniors who have been swimming for a long time, and it showed in the results,” Diefenbacher said. “We train for sectionals and were hoping for third. As many swimmers as we had, we needed everyone to contribute, and they all swam the best they could.”

Team scores: Maine-Endwell, 594.5, Owego 573.5, Norwich 228, Windsor 192, Susquehanna Valley 182, Johnson City 119 and Dryden 97.
