S-E's Franklin, Santiago second at sectionals

SYRACUSE – Sherburne-Earlville seniors Spencer Franklin and Cody Santiago each finished second at the Section III Division II meet at Onondaga Community College Saturday.

Franklin and Santiago advanced to the finals where they met wrestlers with whom they were well acquainted. Franklin (120), an overtime winner over Adirondack’s Pat Webster a week earlier, dropped a 5-4 decision in the return clash.

Webster picked up the first takedown, and Franklin was in catch-up mode the rest of the way. The match dynamic was not dissimilar to Franklin’s win the previous week where he rallied from a 4-1 deficit. “It just came down to Spencer needing a takedown at the end,” said S-E head coach Bim Palmer. “Both kids are pretty equal and hard-nosed. Spencer went out and left it all on the mat. That’s all you can ask for as a coach.”
