Downtown bookstore to close after three decades

NORWICH – It’s been a favorite stop for downtown shoppers since it first opened in the summer of 1982. And for more than 20 years – as both an employee and its owner – First Edition’s Lisa Mody has dedicated countless hours of time and effort into the bookstore’s success. Now, however, after searching for a new owner to take over the 13 South Broad St. business for more than two years, Mody said she’s decided it’s time to move on.

Throughout January, Mody will sell off her remaining stock before closing shop for good at the end of the month.

“It seems like I’ve had the same conversation with hundreds of people,” said an emotional Mody of her decision to shut down the long-running bookstore. “I don’t think I ever realized how difficult it would be, but two years have gone by and I’m ready to move forward.”
