Arts Council debuts Members Exhibit tonight

NORWICH – The Chenango County Council of the Arts, Norwich, announces the opening of its annual Members Exhibit tonight with a reception from 5-7 p.m. at the Mariea Brown and Raymond Loft Galleries, 27 West Main St.

All members of the Council of the Arts are invited each year to display artwork during this exhibit. Drawing, painting, photography, stained glass, fiber art and pottery are displayed and, in many cases, available for purchase.

The exhibit was juried by Kathleen Hayek, who resides between downtown Brooklyn and Walton. She earned a BFA in Painting and a BS in Art Education from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA and her MS in Arts Administration from Bank Street College. Parsons School of Design brought her to NYC, where she has lived for 25-plus years. She brings a variety of art knowledge; such as her experience as an art instructor, her years on the administrative staff of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, and her current role as President and co-founder of the South Of the Navy Yard Artists (SONYA). She produces monoprints out of Goloborotko’s Studio in the Red Hook area of Brooklyn and has recently returned to her country girl roots by moving her painting studio to a converted barn in Walton. She creates landscapes of memory and dreams inspired by long drives on open road along rolling terrain in all seasons. The process of printmaking, particularly creating monoprints, enables the unpredictability of each of her works, mirroring the life processes she describes.
