Marjorie Thompson in concert at 6OTS Saturday

OXFORD – Saturday, at 7:30 p.m., 6 On The Square (6OTS) is proud to announce the return of singer-songwriter-fingerstyle guitarist, Marjorie Thompson. Greg Franklin, on bass, will accompany Marjorie, in a concert performance of original songs plus some traditional blues and roots music. Marjorie’s sparkling wit and heartfelt passionate music is sure to wow you!

Thompson’s music is deeply influenced by the Piedmont-style, rollicking country blues and ragtime guitar playing genre epitomized by artists such as Rev. Gary Davis and Mississippi John Hurt, which were brought into the contemporary era by such artists as Dave Van Ronk and Marjorie’s friend and colleague Jorma Kaukonen (Hot Tuna).

Since 2001, she has amassed a body of innovative original work, touching on traditional themes and very nontraditional ones, some soul-wrenching and some more likely to elicit a smile -- in short, a body of work in the best of the folk and country blues traditions. Her song styles range from blues to rags and ballads, with a discography including Add Some More (‘03), Never Let Me Down (‘05) and Driving Live (‘05); Right By Me (‘07); and the exciting double album, Good, Fast and Cheap (2010). She also offers expert guitar instructional DVDs via her “Marjorie Teaches” series.

Marjorie tours extensively for music performances in the US and Europe, and teaches guitar workshops privately with Jorma at the Fur Peace Ranch Music Camp in Pomeroy, Ohio.
