NORWICH – Weiler Park is going to the dogs on Saturday as the Chenango SPCA prepares to host its 2nd annual Dog Walk and Alumni Parade – Who Let the Dogs Out? – with proceeds benefiting the local animal shelter.

Registration for the event will begin at 10 a.m. and all dogs are welcome, said SPCA Director of Development Sue Reymers, while the walk itself, led by SPCA “alumni,” will step off at 11 a.m.

Last year’s dog walk and parade raised over $10,000 for the SPCA, with approximately 60 dogs and their owners participating. All told, over 100 people turned out for the event, said Reymers, including about a dozen Pomeranians rescued by the SPCA in October of 2008, several Jack Russell Terriers – also rescued by the shelter, in January of 2008 – and many alumni.

“The dog walk is a perfect way to celebrate those rescues, get everyone together and raise money for the SPCA so we can help other animals in need,” stated Reymers. “It’s such a great activity and it’s something for dog owners to enjoy with their pet. A lot of people had been asking for something like this for a long time and we were excited to get this thing started last year.”
