CCE Small-scale Woodlot Management Workshop Set For Oct. 1
Published: September 15th, 2011

NEW BERLIN – Many woodlot owners want to be more active in gathering logs or firewood from their property. Often there are too few acres or too few trees to attract a commercial-scale operation. In other cases, the owner just wants to be more closely involved in the selection, felling and moving of wood. On Saturday Oct. 1, join Dr. Peter Smallidge of Cornell University Cooperative Extension for a small-scale woodlot and sugarbush management workshop. This workshop will focus on the skills needed to remain safe and accomplish the goals.   This workshop is sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chenango and the local chapter of the New York Forest Owners Association.

The workshop will emphasize three areas: safety, silviculture, and technique. Participants will learn how to inspect equipment and tools, utilize safe practices, understand basic silvicultural principles, and make appropriate tree selection choices for multiple ownership objectives.
