“Breaking Up Is Hard To Do” Premieres At Chenango River Theatre
Published: August 5th, 2011

GREENE – In the same vein as last year’s smash hit “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” the new musical “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do” (co-produced by NBT Bank and Cool 100), features many of Neil Sedaka’s most popular songs. With only a 3-week run, this Chenango River Theatre musical will sell out early, even with special discounted Wednesday performances added to the regular schedule.

Set in 1960, it’s the story of Lois and Marge, two friends from Brooklyn in search of good times and romance over one wild Labor Day weekend. Marge’s fiancé has called off their wedding and her best friend, Lois, is determined to cheer her up and get her back on the market, so they head for the Catskills and the Paradise Resort. On their wild get-away, the girls meet some colorful characters - journey back to a more innocent time and relive summers gone by with all the trials, tribulations and emotional upheavals of teenage life and love.

Such familiar Neil Sedaka tunes as Stupid Cupid, Where the Boys Are and Calendar Girl as well as the title song, Breaking Up is Hard to Do, are part of this delightful comic review. The delightful score showcases 18 Sedaka classics, including Laughter in the Rain and Love Will Keep Us Together.
