Schools of the Past: Guilford Districts 1 and 2

The travel route in the township of Guilford will take us to the southern part of the township for the brief information on the first district and to the eastern part of the town for the second district. The lack of historical information regarding these two districts is a definite point of frustration. The school registers, if they are available, have not been researched and as this writer has written numerous times before, the pages of this chapter wilt definitely remain open if information is obtained! Let us now relate the information that is available.

DISTRICT #1 COOPER

This schoolhouse and I regret that the photo is not available is located on the corner of County Road 38 and Cooper Schoolhouse Road. The schoolhouse is still standing and somewhat remodeled as it is a private dwelling at this time. Located just behind and to the east of the building is the Cooper cemetery and almost directly behind the Bainbridge Reservoir.

The now deceased Fred Neidlinger, a lifetime resident of that area attended this district school in August of 2008 he forwarded me at my request, as an acquaintance of both Fred and his wife, what he remembered about attending this schoolhouse. His memories are quoted verbatim as he wrote them.
