Chenango County Farmers Market set to open Saturday

NORWICH – The Chenango County Farmers Market will officially open Saturday in the Frontier Communications parking lot, directly across from the city’s Police Department.

The market was forced to relocate this year due to the renovations taking place in East and West Park, according to Ken and Charlotte Walbrecht, who admitted things are starting up just a little late. In addition, the heavy spring rains have hampered the growth of many gardens all across the county, they added.

Approximately 30 vendors are expected to offer up a wide variety of locally grown produce this summer, in addition to baked goods, maple syrup, honey, eggs, jams, jellies and more, said the Walbrechts, whose involvement with the market goes back a quarter century. Everything offered at the market is high quality, they added.

“It just keeps building,” said the couple of the downtown market. “If we keep getting the kind of support we’ve received this year, that’s a trend we expect to see continue.”
