NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley completed its second shutout win to start the season scoring the game’s only run in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday afternoon.

Brandon Kuhn reached on an infield error, but was thrown out on a fielder’s choice by Kurt Haycook. Haycook stole second, and after an out, Brett Smith scored the game-winner with a single to left field.

Brandon Miles pitched five shutout innings, and was lifted for Travis Conklin. Conklin capped the shutout with two scoreless frames to earn his second win in as many games.

“This is our second day of good pitching,” said UV coach Tom Locke. “Brandon’s control wasn’t as good, and we took him out due to his pitch count. (B-G) had some runners on base, but Brandon did a good job working out of jams.”

Conklin struck out three in his two innings, and has allowed only one hit this season in eight innings pitched.
