Greene beats UV for 4th straight win

Girls’ Basketball

Greene 44, Unadilla Valley 31

NEW BERLIN – Greene used two big runs in the second and fourth quarters to establish command of its game with Unadilla Valley, and the Trojans advanced their winning streak to four games Tuesday.

Kaitlin Gorton hit four three-pointers in the game, and Rachel Turner scored nine points lifting the Trojans to 10 wins on the season. “We had a nice mixture of inside and outside scoring, and it was probably our best team effort of the season,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton.

Trailing UV 10-7 early in the second quarter, Gorton’s three-pointer tied the game to kickstart a 9-0 run that turned into a 14-2 salvo. Andrea Day, Emily Conroe, and Jessica Brooks contributed points, and Gorton finished the spurt the same way she started it – with a long three ball.

Unadilla Valley trimmed a 24-14 halftime deficit down to 30-27 late in the third quarter. Jordan Anderson had three baskets, and an Anderson feed to Lindsay Avolio for a layup with 1:02 left in the quarter made it a three-point game.

Day’s running left-handed basket in the painted area late in the third stemmed the host club’s momentum, and eight straight points to begin the fourth raised the advantage to 13 points.
