Snow plow crash sends three to hospital, slows Rt. 12B traffic

SHERBURNE – Wednesday’s snow storms brought with them a slew of traffic accidents, including a collision in Sherburne between a highway department snow plow and a pickup truck.

At about 9:20 a.m. yesterday, while crews were responding to about half a dozen other traffic accidents scattered across the area, a 911 caller reported a three-car pile up with multiple personal injuries at the intersection of State Highway 12B and Williams Road in the Town of Sherburne.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputy Gary Miller said the incident is still under investigation, but it appears a Town of Sherburne Highway Department plow was struck in the rear as it attempted to turn around in the road. Miller added at the time of the incident the road was covered with snow and a “heavy snow fall” was also affecting traffic conditions.

Miller said the plow, driven by 40-year-old Eric Leinbach, was north bound and attempting to turn at the Williams Road intersection to head south on 12B. A car traveling in the southbound lane came to a stop in the road and waited for the plow to complete its maneuver, he said.
