Norwich cruises to 32-point victory

Girls’ Basketball

Norwich 59, Johnson City 27

NORWICH – Norwich overcame a relatively poor shooting night from the field with an abundance of defense and hustle to win for the sixth time in seven games this season.

Hannah Runyon had 16 points and Bryn Loomis 15 for the Tornado, who expanded a 12-point halftime lead to 23 after three periods over the winless Wildcats. The second half was highlighted by a 10-0 NHS run as Runyon had eight of her points in the game’s third verse, while Loomis, playing with much of the Tornado’s second unit, had nine points in Norwich’s 20-point fourth quarter.

Norwich’s junior varsity team also improved to 6-1 on the season winning 55-30. Sydney Chafee led the Tornado juniors with 12 points. Kristi Orioli and Taylor Cook netted 10 apiece.
