Chenango Forks 47, Norwich 34

NORWICH – Norwich gave up too big of a lead early to Chenango Forks in losing its first dual meet this season to a Southern Tier Athletic Conference opponent on Tuesday.

Cody Bradbury (171) won by pin, and 215-pounder Kegan Levesque scored a late third-period takedown against Jake DuBois as Norwich hung within 12-9 of the Blue Devils. From there, Forks ran four straight victories – one by forfeit and three by pin – to build a 36-9 advantage.

Norwich was as close as 36-31, but dropped two of the final three matches. “There were a lot of different places we could have picked up a team point here or there,” said Norwich coach Joe Downey. “ The guys were excited and ready to wrestle. We were looking forward to this match for a few days, it just wasn’t our night.”

Norwich mounted its comeback beginning with a pin from Tristan Rifanburg (119) and a follow-up pin by John Marvin. Marvin, at 125 pounds, held a slim lead late in the third before turning Forks’ C.J. Stark to earn the stick with two seconds left in the match. “He’s really been looking a lot better and he’s getting more aggressive on his feet,” Downey said of Marvin. “He’s one of our younger guys, and I hope he keeps doing what he’s doing.”
