Solemn 9-11 ceremony in Oxford’s LaFayette Park

OXFORD – An 8:45 a.m. morning ceremony was held on Saturday in LaFayette Park, led by Cub Scout Pack 65, to commemorate the anniversary of the 9-11 attack on the World Trade Center in New York City. This day of somber remembrance and reflection was attended by local dignitaries, marked by prayer, patriotic music, mementos, and flag dedications. It ended with two special flags being raised at the Oxford Fire Department.

In a speech given by Pack 65 Cub Master Karen Covell, she reminded community members present, of the acts of heroism that marked a Tuesday in 2001 and the national show of unity that followed. Covell said, “On this ninth anniversary, we’re here to show support to those who perished.”
