BAINBRIDGE – Oxford made head coach Dennis Smith’s coaching debut a successful one.

Justin Schray scored twice in the first half, and added his third in the second 40 minutes to complete the hat trick. Adam Anthony and Austin Crandall also had goals for the Blackhawks, and Brandon McConnell made four saves in goal to record the shutout.

“We didn’t have many scoring opportunities in the beginning,” Smith said. “We started to work it around well to Justin, and he took care of it for us. We just have to continue to move the ball, and everything will be all right.”

G-MU 2, Worcester 1

COPES CORNERS – G-MU senior Tanya Barnes scored the game-winning goal with less than three minutes remaining to give her team its first win of the season on Thursday afternoon.

The Raiders trailed 1-0 at the outset, but received a fortunate bounce to tie the game at halftime. Lauren Hill’s header into the Worcester defensive zone was miscleared into the net to knot the game.

G-MU maintained a substantial edge in shot attempts, 27-12, but many of the shots were from long range, said head coach Kristen Bradbury. “We were definitely getting more shots, but we couldn’t connect with the goal,” Bradbury said. “Obviously we’re playing better, but there are a lot of things we need to work on.”

G-MU (1-0-1) plays at Franklin Tuesday.
