G-MU 12-2, Laurens 2-0 (5 innings)

LAURENS – G-MU swept a doubleheader from Laurens Wednesday, and in the process clinched the Tri-Valley League West Division championship.

The Raiders (8-2, 11-4) finished off the sweep as DeMario Reed, Jon Scofield, and Andrew Delmar combined on a two-hit shutout. G-MU meets either Cherry Valley-Sprinfield or Milford in the title game Friday at 5 p.m. at Oneonta State.

“We did some good stuff today,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “Andrew picked off two runners in the first game, and we threw out a runner attempting to steal. DeMario helped himself in the second game starting a double play. We played good defense today.”

G-MU had four consecutive hits in the opening inning of the first game to take a 3-0 lead. Delmar, Scofield, and Corin Todd had RBI singles. Later in the game, Delmar capped an eight-run fifth with a three-run double. He finished with four RBI and Todd had three hits and two RBI.

Reed pitched three scoreless innings to win his first game as a starting pitcher. Nick Sebeck had two hits for the Raiders singling and eventually scoring the intitial run in the third, then singling in Reed in the fourth.
