Norwich 8, Oneonta 7

ONEONTA – Norwich avenged its worst loss this season beating the STAC Central Division champion Yellowjackets on their own diamond Friday night.

Norwich, losers to the ‘Jackets, 29-9, during spring break did not trail in the game, but saw Oneonta rally to tie the game with four runs in the sixth. Nate Eastman’s three-run homer made it a 7-7 game.

Norwich responded in the bottom of the seventh as Josh Whaley doubled, and Casey Edwards was inserted as a pinch-runner for Whaley. Richie Bonney’s long flyball to right center found a gap in the Oneonta defense to score Edwards with the winning run.

“We just beat the division champs, and this proves that when we put things together and play good ball, we can compete with anyone in our league,” said Norwich coach John Martinson.

Whaley pitched two innings of relief for his third win of the season and Norwich’s fourth overall. Bonney was 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Nick McCullough drove in two runs for Norwich.

Eastman had two hits and four RBI for Oneonta.

Norwich plays at Windsor today.
