“We had some good timely hitting today,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks, who praised winning pitcher Wilson. “This was a big win for Mike. He kept the ball down, and had a lot of ground-ball outs.”

OXFORD – Derrick Head pitched six strong innings in his best outing of the season, and Oxford finished out the week with back-to-back victories.

Jamie Smolcnop and Andrew Golden were each hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Oxford’s first two runs in the second, and a third run was added with a walk.

Oxford built the lead to as many as eight runs scoring five runs in the fourth. Adam Pierson capped that inning lacing a two-run single. “We played really good defense tonight behind Derrick,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer, whose club raised its record to 5-10. “The difference tonight was that we were catching the ball, and our pitchers limited their walks. I have been pleased with the way we’ve play in all but two out of the last 21 innings.”

Kyle Ferrington had two runs scored for Oxford, and Head finished with six strikeouts.

Travis Cammer had three hits for Deposit.
