Greene police sergeant resigns

GREENE – The Village of Greene Police Department announced this morning that Sgt. Norm Shaffer has resigned from his position with the department.

According to Greene Police Chief Steve Dutcher, the veteran law enforcement officer, who technically works part-time for both Greene and Oxford’s village departments, tendered his resignation late Monday afternoon.

Dutcher declined to comment on the reason for Shaffer’s resignation “due to ... civil service law.”

Shaffer, who had been with the Greene Police for five years, was second in command of the village police force. He and his certified narcotics K-9 Larz were instrumental in a number of drug-related arrests and often worked in cooperation with the New York State Police, Chenango County Sheriff’s Department and other local law enforcement agencies.
