Norwich 37, Susquehanna Valley 26

NORWICH – Tanner Cummings jump-started Norwich’s momentum at 119 pounds with a pin, and that set the stage for the Tornado’s dual meet victory over Sus Valley at Norwich High School Wednesday night.

“Going in, we felt this dual was a toss-up,” said Norwich coach Joe Downey. “They’re (our team) wrestling phenomenal and digging deep. The kids that are on the bench are cheering each other on. It’s a great feeling.”

Cameron Yaiser (125) followed Cummings’ win with a decison, and Zach Ketchum (130) along with Matt Thompson (135) had back-to-back pins. Cameron Turner’s pin at 140 pounds clinched the win for Norwich.

“Tanner is consistent and we knew what we were getting from him, but with the others, I wasn’t sure,” Downey said. “Cameron got a huge decision, Zach wrestled a tough kid and ended up getting a win. Matt won his first varsity match, and he was able to pin his kid to do it. Overall, it was a great team effort.”

Norwich returns to the mat tonight when it visits Sherburne-Earlville for a non-league matchup.
