Norwich 49, Maine-Endwell 22

NORWICH – Norwich’s Cody Bradbury clinched the Purple Tornado’s dual meet win over Maine-Endwell Tuesday night with a pin of the Spartans’ Max Hardin in 3:03 in the 152-pound matchup.

Norwich led 31-22 at that point, and Bradbury fell behind early giving up a takedown. Early in the second, Bradbury worked a reversal, and turned Hardin for the stick. “That (win) was absolutely huge for Cody,” said Norwich coach Joe Downey. “Both teams are fairly young, and a couple of matches could have gone either way.”

Norwich sophomore Keegan Levesque (189) gave Norwich the early lead with an 18-second pin. Tristan Rifanburg (103), Frankie Garcia (112), Tanner Cummings (119), and Cameron Yaiser (125) strung wins together to establish a 28-6 advantage.

“Keegan did a nice job getting the momentum going,” Downey said. “I thought Tristan looked a lot better and was more aggressive on his feet. Frankie was Frankie.”

Later on, Cameron Turner (140) grinded out a hard-fought 6-3 win over the Spartans’ Greg Kleinsmith. Turner’s late takedown secured the win. NHS’s Morgan Crawford (160) won a back-and-forth battle over Darnell Woolfolk. Crawford trailed 9-8 entering the last period, and had to fight off his back in the second stanza to avoid the loss. Crawford turned the tables early in the third showing superior aggressiveness and conditioning to earn the late-match pinfall.

“It was nice for some of our guys to dig deep and pull out some gutsy wins,” Downey said.
