Mid-York Shining Brass Performs Sunday Concert
Published: December 11th, 2009

SHERBURNE – The brass instrument and sounds of Christmas seem made for each other. For proof, you need only travel to the lovely United Church of Christ in Sherburne this Sunday afternoon, Dec. 13, and enjoy the beautiful and colourful decorations and the bright and joyful sounds of the Mid York Shining Brass Band. The concert will begin at 3 p.m.

In addition to the cheerful seasonal music you will also hear a great Sousa march called, “The Invincible Eagle,” a rousing Morton Gould piece based on “When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again” and titled “American Salute.” Solos by our talented musicians include “None but the Lowly Heart” played by Afton Band Director, Chris Luttinger. Bob Merrick will show off his warm French horn tones with “Greensleaves.” For those who enjoy the old favorites (and who doesn’t) the band will offer “Orpheus in the Underworld” by Offenbach. A highlight of the concert will surely be Bill Pomares, tenor sac, playing of “Yackety Sax.” That was the Benny Hill show theme and familiar to fans of Boots Randolph.
