Greene ninth grader plays Mayor for a Day

GREENE – What does it take to be mayor in the village of Greene? Apparently, two boxes of Jell-O.

Those packets of flavored gelatin were the non-perishable food items Greene High School Freshman John Smith brought to the Halloween Dance on Oct. 31. Not only did his donation for the food pantry secure him reduced price admission to the event, but it also entered him into the second annual “Mayor for a Day” contest, sponsored by Village of Greene Mayor Marcia Miller.

When dance-goers succeeded in filling Miller’s Ford Explorer with food for the pantry during the dance, one lucky winner was granted the honor of playing mayor for a day. This year, that winner was Smith.
