Norwich Doubles Team Reaches Sectional Semifinals

Class B sectionals

OWEGO – Norwich sophomores Bryn Loomis and Sophie Stewart advanced to the Section IV, Class B Tournament semifinals winning two matches on Tuesday.

The NHS doubles team won both of its matches in straight sets, the latter win over number five seed Charissa Guy and Ellen Loughlin of Seton Catholic Central, 6-3, 6-3.

“They’ve come back this year more mature and they’re playing with a lot more focus,” said Norwich coach John Stewart of his doubles team.

Action in the tournament resumes today at Owego.

Singles

Second round: Jessica Lerner (N) lost to Lauren Kozlowski, third seed, (M-E), 6-0, 6-2; Reva Seager (N) lost to Allie Schuppert (Corning East), fourth seed, 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles

*Emily Stewart-Katie Orioli (N) d. Nicole Pionteck-Sarah Freed, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. Lost in third round to first seeded Laura Dragon-Abby Wunder (Owego), 6-0, 0-6, 6-1.

*Bryn Loomis-Sophie Stewart d. Lindsay Crawford-Alyssa Hawras (CF), 6-2, 6-2; and beat Charissa Guy-Ellen Loughlin (SCC), 6-3, 6-3 in quarterfinals.

Boys’ Soccer

Windsor 3, Norwich 2

NORWICH – On Norwich’s senior recognition night, the Black Knights came up with the winning goal in the final 10 minutes of play to break a 2-2 tie.

Logan Nagle hit a long-range shot that deflected off a Norwich’s defender’s head and into the upper corner of the net.
