OXFORD – Greene needed a penalty-kick shootout to unseat G-MU as Oxford Tournament champions.

After two overtimes and the first round of penalty kicks, the shootout went to sudden victory. Curtis Richards made back-to-back stops for the Trojans in goal setting up Nate Patrick’s winning kick.

“They played us tough and have some solid players,” said Greene coach Rick Tallman. “We controlled a lot of the first half, but they wouldn’t go away. They kept plugging and came on strong in the second half.”

Jake Shearer gave Greene a one-goal halftime lead scoring at 12:55 after an Alex Driscoll pass. G-MU’s Alex Schmidt was able to net the tying goal scoring with 7:22 left in regulation.

In Friday’s preliminary round, the Trojans routed Greene, 10-1, while G-MU defeated the host Blackhawks, 4-1.

In the consolation game, Kyle Ferrington had a hat trick for Oxford, who raced to a 4-1 halftime lead over the Spartans to earn the club’s second win this season.

Jake Carr added two goals and one assist for Oxford, and Cory Seiler along with Taylor Bates scored.
