Greene starts the year with a new superintendent

GREENE – With less than a week before the official start of the 2009-10 academic year, Greene’s new superintendent has his work cut out for him as he settles into a new job, a new district and a new home.

On Tuesday, Jonathan Retz started his new job as superintendent of the Greene Central School District.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be here,” said Retz, who was appointed in June to replace retiring administrator Gary Smith.

The new administrator’s first three days have been filled with meetings, as he familiarizes himself with the district’s administrative structure, faculty and staff, board and building project.

The more he learns about Greene, he said, the more excited he becomes.

“There are a lot of great things going on here,” Retz explained, citing the district’s academic success, strong community support, forward-looking building project and stable finances. “I want to continue that.”
