Test your strength at Habitat’s “Skillet Toss”

NORWICH – The Chenango County Habitat for Humanity (CCHH) will be participating at the Chenango County Fair with a new fund raising sport. On Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday form 3 to 5 p.m. you can play the CCHH “Skillet Toss.” If you’ve got a strong arm, the “Skillet Toss” might be fun for you! The game simply involves throwing a hefty steel skillet for distance. Are you up for the challenge?

The first day at the County Fair, Thursday, will be open for people who just want to flex their muscles and give it a try. The top skillet athletes, however, will be invited back “into the frying pan” Saturday to toss the heavy utensil in an attempt to mark a farther distance than his or her competitors.

The “Skillet Toss” skillet is a specially fabricated and weighted steel skillet made especially for the game. (Cast iron skillets tend to break and the weight isn’t as consistent.) Traditionally the game is played by women only, however, since it is new to the area, the CCHH decided to open it up to both sexes. That’s just what they did this past June when they introduced the “Skillet Toss” at Dairy Day.
