Norwich Takes Second Place In Pony League

NORWICH – Norwich I clinched second place in Otsenango Pony League Division D play, and earned a playoff spot in the process beating Sidney, 3-1 on Saturday.

Cody Barnes logged 6 2-3 innings to pick up the victory striking out seven and allowing just three hits.

Cameron Prime doubled and scored two of Norwich’s three runs. Reid Rose and Jeff Burlew also supplied two doubles to the Norwich offensive effort.

Norwich plays at Oneonta, Division B champions, Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Oxford 13, Norwich II 12

OXFORD – Oxford clinched the Otsenango Pony League Division A title, and eliminated Norwich II from postseason consideration as well, winning 13-12 last weekend.

In a game that saw five lead changes, Ryan Moore’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh plated the game-winner.

Andrew Golden pitched four innings of relief to earn the victory for Oxford (9-1). Adam Pierson scored four runs in the win and Justin Schray had a pair of hits.

Mackay Hotaling smacked a long three-run homer for Norwich, and Colby Griffin added two hits and two RBI.
