Accident victim dies from injuries

NORWICH – One of the six victims injured in a two-car collision last week died of his injuries Friday, surrounded by family and friends in the intensive care unit at Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City.

A day after his wife, Teresa Conant, was upgraded from critical to stable condition, 41-year-old Brian Conant of Norwich passed away.

Brian was in the driver’s seat at the time of the July 12 crash with his wife sitting along side him in the passenger seat. Her mother, 67-year old Iris Delgado of Norwich, was sitting in the back of the vehicle. Her condition has been stable since early last week.

The three were leaving the parking lot of their church, Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall, when another vehicle heading north on Rt. 12 veered off the right side of the roadway and struck Conant’s driver side door, head on, while the Black Buick LeSabre he was driving sat idle.

Mark Conant said his brother passed away in the presence of his mother, siblings and wife, who is still recovering from the incident, along with several other family members.

“It’s horrible, obviously. One of the worst days of my life and we’re all so burned out emotionally there isn’t much to say,” Mark said Monday morning.
