Chase project delayed in New Berlin

NEW BERLIN – Chase Memorial Nursing Home’s $16.1 million building project, which would completely restructure the facility, has hit a snag in receiving Department of Health approval and will most likely be delayed until 2010.

Chase Administrator Roger J. Halbert said construction was set to begin as early as September, but the DOH has asked for a more in-depth financial feasibility study that required additional information not included in the home’s original application, which had already received initial approval from the state.

“We have been in a holding pattern for the last few months while we work on the financial piece of the contingency plan for the Department of Health. We are currently searching for firms to do the study,” he said.

Halbert said he learned of the delay only two weeks earlier and drafted a letter to the state explaining the delay and asking for additional time for the project.
