SMYRNA – Now that the school year has officially ended, the summer camp season will begin, and the Norwich Family YMCA wants to remind families of the opportunities available at their Camp Thompson facility in Smyrna.

YMCAs across the country have been providing summer camps for more than 150 years, and the Norwich YMCA has been operating Camp Thompson for 41.

“Children are our greatest treasures and our greatest responsibility,” said YMCA Senior Program Director Tom Revoir. “YMCA camps help kids have fun, grow positively, meet healthy role models and learn good values. We not only provide good memories that last a lifetime, but we also assure parents that their kids are in good hands.”

The YMCA offers a variety of programs at the Camp Thompson facility. The most popular program, day camp for youth, runs daily from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The day camp program is open to children from kindergarten through fifth grade. According to a press release distributed by the Y, the program provides children with the opportunity to connect with their peers and their community. Children in the program can participate in activities such as canoeing, hiking, crafts, sports, swimming and adventure-based programs.
