Classic cars cruise in to Greene

GREENE – There is good news for the classic car enthusiasts who flocked to downtown Greene every other Thursday last summer: The Greene Cruise In is back.

Starting May 7, the bi-weekly Cruise In, which drew an average of 60 street rods and antique cars plus a large crowd of spectators each week, will return from 6 to 9 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of every month through October 17.

With a host of giveaways donated by local merchants, contests, prizes and DJ Jimmy B playing a mix of oldies and goodies, event sponsors promise this year’s Cruise In will be even bigger and better than ever.

“The more people we can get here the better,” said Enzo Olivieri from Nathanael Greene’s Publick House who, along with Tri-County Collision and Wes “Big Wally” VanVoorhies, sponsors the Greene Cruise In.

According to Olivieri’s wife Irene, the event is designed to both bring the local community together, and also to attract people from outside of the area to downtown Greene. Last year it did just that, with car owners coming from not only Chenango and Broome counties, but Pennsylvania as well.
