Chenango Forks 6, Norwich 5 (8 innings)

CHENANGO FORKS – Chenango Forks’ perfectly executed suicide squeeze bunt in the bottom of the eighth scored the winning run Wednesday against visiting Norwich.

Norwich made up a 5-2 deficit scoring two in the sixth, and tying the contest on Mike Moon’s solo home run in the seventh.

Forks’ offense in the eighth began with Tom Dybas’ lead-off double. Kevin Hamilton sacrificed Dybas over, and Matt LeVasseur delivered the game-winning bunt. “It was just a perfectly executed play,” said Norwich coach John Martinson of the suicide squeeze.

Tim Clark, Christian Hotaling and Mike Moon had two hits apiece for Norwich. Hotaling added a solo round-tripper in the fifth that began the comeback. “I proud of the way the guys fought back from three runs down,” Martinson said, who also lauded Moon’s complete-game pitching effort. “I can’t say enough good things about the job Moon did. We just had some crucial fielding errors, and we’ll struggle in these close games until we take care of the defense.”

Norwich (0-3) hosts Chenango Valley today.
