SHERBURNE – Local residents don’t get many opportunities to watch the Sherburne-Earlville Winter Guard in action, but on Saturday, the squad will compete with 11 others at the S-E High School.

“Each year we hold one color guard competition at Sherburne-Earville,” said coach Becky Jantzen. “This is the only opportunity we have to do our exhibition for the community that supports us.” Jantzen explained that few area school districts have color guard, and because the color guard portion of the Pageant of the Bands was eliminated, there are few other opportunities to watch the team in action.

Saturday’s competition will include 11 area teams from the Central New York region. Teams from Laurens to Trumansburg will travel to the school to participate in the competition. “It gives us a chance to expose the local community to what we do,” Jantzen said. Each of the teams performing are part of the Mid-York Color Guard Circuit, but Jantzen explained there will be five different classes represented. Sherburne will compete in the SRA class.
