Bush arrested in Friday night gunshot incident

NORWICH – The Norwich Police Department has arrested a Norwich man for shooting two others following an alcohol fueled argument that took place Friday night in the City of Norwich.

Police accuse Lee M. Bush, 49, of Norwich, of firing his 12-gauge shotgun at two men at 10 p.m. Friday, striking both with numerous pellets from the blast.

Norwich Police Chief Joseph Angelino said the department received reports from neighbors saying they heard the sound of a gunshots on Court Street, near the Henry Street intersection, behind the Howard Johnson’s Hotel. Police said they think the two men were shot in the driveway of Bush’s apartment house at 29 Court St.

“When officers arrived, they encountered intoxicated subjects who said a party had been taking place and there was no gun fire, only an M80 firecracker had been set off. There were no gunshot victims at the scene and no indications that anyone had been shot,” said Angelino.

The PD originally confiscated a stash of fireworks and then ticketed Bush for unlawfully possessing them, along with a small quantity of marijuana.

However, Saturday morning at about 3 a.m., police were contacted by Chenango Memorial Hospital because a male gunshot wound victim was seeking medical attention.
