Burglar enters guilty plea

NORWICH – A convicted felon pleaded guilty July 3 to attempted third degree burglary, a class E felony, and faces from one and a half years to three years in state prison.

Scott A. Chapman, 35, Afton, was in court June 30 and again July 3 in connection with the crime. Chapman’s lawyer, Peter McBride and District Attorney Joseph McBride had their chance to question witnesses, including law enforcement officers who responded to the call reporting an alleged home invasion in October of 2007.

After over an hour of questioning June 30, Supreme Court Justice Kevin M. Dowd, who is presiding over the case, reserved judgment on what evidence could be used against Chapman and what statements, if any, would be suppressed in court.
