S-E tops UV again

NEW BERLIN – Sherburne-Earlville matched a tournament championship victory over Unadilla Valley from earlier this month winning the Storm’s holiday tourney Friday, 47-36.

After a slow start offensively in which it did not score a point until the four-minute mark of the opening stanza, the Marauders erupted for six three balls in the first half to take a 27-15 lead.

Karli Harris came off the bench to can three treys, Courtney Van Althuis, Megan Record, and Danielle Green also connected from long range. “They seemed to hit everything from outside, I’d like to see their shooting percentage,” said UV coach Brandi Backus, whose club dropped a 40-34 final to the Marauders four weeks ago. “We beat ourselves quite a bit turning it over too much.”

Although the Marauders were in control at halftime, UV made a strong run in the third quarter cutting the 12-point lead in half. Hannah Johnson scored eight points in the third quarter, and Katrina Benson’s layup with two seconds left in the quarter made it 35-29.
